Replaced 2 Pot Calipers with 4 Pots 17"FRONT WHEEL MODIFICATION The standard 18" front wheel is 2.15" wide and radial tyre sizes are limited .Fitting a 17"wheel has 3 advantages:1)The 17" wheel is 3.5" wide 2)There are much more tyre choices in 17" 3)The steering becomes lighter. This all amounts to hugely improved cornering experience. The wheel is off YZF 1000.

Additional swing arm bracing. The original first brace was welded closer to the swingarm with the intention of keeping the centre stand.A mild 140 mph weave still was evident.I then decided to add additional (more angled)bracing and in the process had to remove the centre stand .Now there is no weaving at 140.Bracing must be properly done to work effectively!

"I am optimistic that this will work on the standard Vmax fork in making it more sturdy and hopefully much less flexible. Also I have not seen such a device fitted by any Vmaxer anywhere on any web page and this may be a "boerepatent" that may work for me and also for other Vmaxers."

My Results

See attached the pictures of the device that I dreamed up and had machined .

The idea is to strengthen and brace the fork stanchions themselves, in the section directly below the clamps  up to just above the fork slider when the forks are completely compressed, thus restricting them from bending and flexing under  the immense forces of acceleration, braking and cornering.

I repeat again that all the previous modifications turned the Vmax into a better handling cruiser than it has any right to do.This is true insofar that Mr Max weighs at least 100 kg more than a sportsbike.Yes a sportsbike has aerodynamics ,is superior at speeds above 150 mph and also in very tight consecutive corners. In the real world Mr Max (piloted by a competent rider)will however embarrass many rookie(and intermediate ability) sportbike riders. This hooligan  packs enough muscle in the power cruiser arena to back up its looks...a heavyweight cruiser that handles like  an agile middleweight on steroids....a power sportcruiser.

What did I set out to achieve with the clamp modification:

-to make the Vmax even more stable at high speeds

-to make the Vmax more stable at tight cornering , braking and acceleration

-Have I succeeded........the answer is  yes and apart from the clamps  functionality it really looks the business.

I therefore introduce to all South African(and overseas Vmaxers) a modification that has (to my knowledge) never been thought of or actually done before............................therefore beef up your fork and clamp down on bending and flexing with a  "Carl Clamp".

ps.I  have lowered the handlebars on my Max and now have lower flat straight drag bars which are more conducive to faster cornering and high speed straightlining. It still looks and sits like a bad ass power cruiser and can turn from big lazy cruiser into mean hot rod at the drop of a gear and the twist of the throttle...a real Doctor Jeckyll and Mr Hyde.

Subject: List of further improvements on my bike

Hans
Please place the following newer mods I have done to Mr Max since the 2006 rally
-sand blasted and polished the engine crankcase covers, gearcase cover and waterpump cover-changed fork oil from 15wt to 20 wt which works even better and replaced steering  head bearings
- More old school hot rod flames on front fender

-braced the swing arm and fitted new swing arm bearings

-made frame braces to strengthen and brace the frame
(note the Odyssey Rally Metal Badge on the radiator side)

-fitted a steering damper

Regards
Carl

Subject: Technical mods

Vmaximus all Vmaxers

Here follows a complete set of modifications that I have done on my Vmax up to date:

1.MRA (adjustable) highway fly screen-this is an absolute must for long stretches at speed.
2.Raised wider straight drag bars-why you might ask-because they allow better forward and backward adjustment than the std ones and feel more comfortable and cruiser like-they work for me and I can still take corners
very well-coupled with the screen I can and do sit up straight at speeds of 140mph feet forward.

3.Small (2 of them) 8 cm diameter chrome spot lights mounted horizontally on either side my original headlamp-gives instant daylight when on high beam.

4.Arrows clear lens(with orange light bulbs) blinkers(flashers)-even though they are smaller than  the originals they are equally effective and look modern .

5.Double hose brake line from the master cylinder front brake so that each caliper has its own brake line directly off the master cylinder-thanks Hans Knop for this one-braking improved on my front brakes.

6.Exactrep cruiser belly pan-purely a cosmetic thing-advantage of this one though is that you can still remove and change oil filter without needing to remove the entire bellypan.

7.Exactrep lazer cut radiator grill-will stop stones from damaging radiator.

8.Lazer cut air intake grill-matches radiator grill-thanks to John Van Nieuwenhuizen.

9.Two slash cut turn out slip on exhaust cans-free flowing and noisy the way I like em'

10.Sissy bar-pillion passengers like it and it is a great place to tie on your barrel bag filled up with tent sleeping bag fold up chair and clothing- leather saddle bags also.

12.K & N air filer with Y on air box removed.

13.Needles shimmed with copper washers

14.Diaphragm spring tied back 5 coils

16.New voltage rectifier(with cooling fins)and earth cable directly to battery.

17.Engine protectors with flip up highway foot pegs for feet forward cruising.

19.Double D clutch mod-extra spring and bigger diameter friction plate-no clutch slipping-the clutch really bites after this mod.

20.Replace fork oil with 15weight Motul oil-bike does not nose dive harshly when braking on down hill and generally corners better-I run 0.6 kpa pressure when solo and 0.9 kpa with passenger-Rear is permanenly on 5 for
damping and 4 for rebound-why so hard you ask, because the radial tyres ride softer and this setting suites my 96kg weight.

21.Radial tyres and 17'" rear wheel

22.Solid metal mounts of stainless steel

23.Manual fan switch

24.Vboost on and off switch-helps improve feul economy at over 6000rpm 5th gear riding.

25.Selector switch to have Vboost come in at either 3000rpm or 6000rpm.

26.Front and rear lazer detection and jamming device that can be switched off via the engine run switch. This  run switch was disabled as regards to its original function and I never used that switch anyway.

27. Other mods ???? maybe nitrous oxide or something to go faster-anyone with some bright ideas ?

Kindly forward any complaints in respect of spelling and grammar mistakes to Mr B. Gates .
